The History Of:

Southern Cagayan Valley Churches Of Christ Mission

(Isabela South, Quirino Province, Nueva Vizcaya)

This Northeastern part of the Philippines, commonly known as Cagayan Valley or Region 2 is blessed by dedicated Preachers and American Missionaries who worked hard in the past to establish Congregations of the Churches of Christ/Christian Churches in the area. As a matter of fact, as early as 1908, the Aparri Church of Christ (Cagayan) was already existing with the late Pastor Faustino Peneyra, Sr., as the Preaher who pioneered it, and the Evangelist who worked in His Vineyard to evangelize in the province of Cagayan. And through his initiative, the late American Missionary Charles W. Selby had come to work with him in the area in 1947 and founded the Philippine Mission Churches of Christ of Northern Luzon (PMCC-NL). Unfortunately, from that time on until the PMCC-NL was turned over to Filipino leadership on June, 2004, the Southern part of Cagayan Valley or Southern Region 2 was not taken in their area of concern. This fact opened the way for the “Southern Cagayan Valley Churches of Christ Mission” (SOCAVA-COC MISSION) to be conceived. Thus, on March, 2004, three Congregations of the Churches of Christ/Christian Churches: Diffun Church of Christ (Quirino Province), Santiago City Church of Christ (Isabela), and Bayombong Church of Christ (Nueva Vizcaya)  met for that purpose.

The Southern Cagayan Valley Churches Of Christ Mission commonly called SOCAVA-COC MISSION was  born (on March, 2008) at Diffun Church Of Christ, Diffun, Quirino and was formally launched on January 10, 2009 at Santiago City Church Of Christ (Isabela) held at the Waterworld Resort and attended by seven local Congregations, namely: Echague, Bantog Petines, Sinamar Norte, and Santiago City Churches in Isabela; Diffun Church in Quirino Province; and Bayombong Church in Nueva Vizcaya. The Mission's ultimate goal is to cater for evangelism the provinces of Southern Cagayan Valley, namely: Quirino Province, Nueva Vizcaya, Southern portion of Isabela, and lower portion of Ifugao. At present, we only have four (4) small Congregations in Nueva Vizcaya: Bayombong (Town Proper)  Church of Christ and Bonfal Church of Christ (also in Bayombong)  that were started during the 90’s, and the Aritao Church of Christ that started on 2005 while the other one is the Udyawan Church Of Christ in Solano; in Quirino Province, we also have one: the Diffun Church of Christ that was started in 2002; in South Isabela Province: the Santiago Church of Christ of Santiago City Proper established on 1995,  the Alicia Church started  on the late 90's,the Echague Church of Christ started on the 80’s and few others; and, have one  Congregation in  lower Ifugao. All the above-mentioned Congregations are small ones with an average membership of  four to eight families each. The reason for this slow growth is the inability of these Congregations to evangelize on their own as independent Congregations. Thus, the SOCAVA-COC MISSION was founded to look into some possible ways that this Southern part of Cagayan Valley be attended to: Strengthen these already existing Congregations and to engage in pioneering to the towns and municipalities of the identified area. It is the main thrust of SOCAVA-COC MISSION to lift-up to the highest level: the reason and intention of the Lord in founding His Church, Acts 1:8; maintaining the zeal of the believers to grow into spiritual maturity, Matt. 28:20; and, making sure that the individual members of the Body should to engage in an active ministry within their individual gifts and capabilities, Eph. 4:12,16.
